On
July 31, the Democracy Research Institute (DRI) held a discussion: "What
impact will the European integration of Georgia have on the occupied regions?
Possible scenarios".
The
topic of discussion was the impact of Georgia's integration into the European
Union on the security dynamics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia under the
occupation of the Russian Federation, as well as the impact of the legislative
and policy changes of Georgia on the human rights situation in South Ossetia
and Abkhazia in the process of European integration.
The
invited speakers also discussed whether the advancement of Georgia on the path
of European integration will create a sense of security for the population of
South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and whether the European integration of Georgia can
be considered as an opportunity to accelerate the process of restoring trust
between the populations living on different sides of the dividing line.
The
event is supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
