On December 6,
2024, Georgian civil society organizations have
jointly applied
to international mechanisms, in particular, the communication has been sent to:
1. Council of
Europe Commissioner for Human Rights;
2. OSCE
(ODIHR);
3. UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other
Cruel, Inhuman
or Degrading Treatment or Punishment;
4. UN Special Rapporteur on
the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and
of Association;
5. UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Opinion and Expression;
6. UN Special
Rapporteur on the Situation
of Human Rights Defenders.
The
communication concerns the grave human rights situation in Georgia. The named
persons may, within the framework of their mandate, take various
measures in relation to Georgia, including paying a visit to Georgia and assessing the human
rights situation on the ground.
The
communication describes in
detail cases from November 28 to the present day, which include the
commission of various crimes, including torture, inhuman and degrading
treatment against the absolute majority of peaceful demonstrators; illegality
and disproportionateness of the measures
used to crack down on
the rallies; illegal arrests;
search and seizure operations; exercise of the right to a fair trial;
deliberate persecution of journalists, and the inaction of the Special
Investigation Service.

The decision taken by the state in relation to Azerbaijani journalist constitutes a grave violation of human rights, including breaches of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights.
