On September 24, the Democracy Research Institute received a letter from Ivanishvili-Kuprashvili’s Anti-Corruption Bureau, according to which proceedings are underway to check the compliance of the activities of the Democracy Research Institute with the Law of Georgia on Grants. To this end, the Bureau requests from the organization to submit information of various categories related to the activities that have been carried from April 16, 2025 to the present, within three working days, without reference to specific articles or the relevant legal grounds.
The organization explains to the Anti-Corruption Bureau in writing that the requested information goes beyond the scope of the Law on Grants. In addition, the Democracy Research Institute cannot be the addressee of the repressive amendments made to the Law on Grants, as the organization has not signed a new grant agreement nor has made any amendment to the grant agreement.
An identical letter (along with
other repressive mechanisms) has been sent from Ivanishvili-Kuprashvili’s bureau to a number of other civil society organizations
working on human rights, which aims to discredit and stop these organizations.
