The
Anti-Corruption Bureau, which was established within the framework of the
recommendations of the European Commission, will be abolished from March 2,
2026, and its functions will be transferred to the State Audit Service.
According to the representatives
of Georgian Dream, the goal of the abolition is to optimize costs. The organization believes that the abolition of the Bureau
is actually
perceived as a
clear demarcation with the EU political values
and European integration.
The main task of the agency created to combat corruption has become the persecution of the civil sector. The entire resource of the agency has been directed towards pursuing partisan interests and suppressing critical opinion. During the incomplete three years, not a single case of alleged corruption has been identified by the Bureau. The monitoring report prepared by the organization assesses the very activities of the Anti-Corruption Bureau for the incomplete three years.
The agreement
“On the Deepening of Allied Cooperation”, signed in the Kremlin on 9 May between Vladimir Putin and the de facto leader of South Ossetia, Alan Gagloev,
implies the practical annexation of the region.
On 6 May, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted its 13th decision concerning the conflict in Georgia, once again expressing its “unequivocal support” for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
