On May 17, 2019, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the Democracy Research Institute team members observed the demonstration in front of the Chancellery of the Government of Georgia. The demonstration was attended by the representatives of far-right groups. Violence, ill-treatment and abuse of power were not recorded. Anti-liberal propaganda and hate speech towards the LGBTQ community and the defenders of their rights was used by the speakers during the demonstration. Hate speech was used on the participants’ posters as well.
The demonstration was monitored by the financial support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia in the framework of the project "Understanding and Combating Far-Right Extremism and Ultra-Nationalism in Georgia”.
The decision taken by the state in relation to Azerbaijani journalist constitutes a grave violation of human rights, including breaches of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights.
