The Democracy Research Institute condemns the illegal detentions of the participants in the peaceful protest ongoing in connection with the entry of the ASTORIA GRANDE cruise ship in the port of Batumi.
According to the publicly spread information, on June 2, in the vicinity of the Parliament of Georgia, several people were detained for making inscriptions on a poster.
DRI echoes the arrest of the participants in the protest rally held at Tbilisi Airport and calls on the authorities not to use repressive police measures towards the peaceful civil protest expressed against the growing influence of the occupying country.
According to the Democracy Research Institute, the extension of the detention period can serve to punish the detainee, to prolong the severe physical pain suffered by him and/or to try to hide his injuries from the public.
