Residents of the village of Naushi, in Gulripshi District, have been living without a centralised water supply for the past eight years. According to local residents, despite repeated appeals over many years and inspections carried out by the relevant authorities, the problem remains unresolved.

Residents have publicised the issue on social media and called on the local de facto authorities to take action. According to them, part of the village is not connected to a water supply network, forcing residents to fetch water themselves to meet their daily needs.

“Several households, including families with children, have been living without access to water for almost eight years. We are forced to fetch water ourselves and then heat it for everyday household use,” local residents stated.

Residents of other districts have also responded to reports of the situation. Some social media users note that the water supply problem is not limited to Naushi and that similar difficulties exist in other villages across Abkhazia. They likewise call on the local de facto authorities to take effective action, stating that such problems have been neglected for years.

According to residents, responsible officials have visited the site on several occasions, and inspections have been carried out; however, the situation remains unchanged. As of now, the local de facto authorities have not issued any public statement or presented a concrete plan to resolve the problem.

According to specialists, the prolonged lack of access to water affects not only everyday living conditions but also public health, hygiene, and overall quality of life. Children, older people, and persons with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of prolonged water shortages.
